I'm in Thailand right now, and just a few hours ago, I was on a boat headed to the James Bond Island, otherwise known as Scaramanga's island in The Man With The Golden Gun. Look, you can see it in the distance.
On the way back, I chatted with an interesting guy. He told me he used to be a works driver for Mitsubishi for a few months and would drive Evo rally cars, after which he then emigrated to another team. He told me (modestly!) he knew a little about tuning cars and was nice enough to give me a little explanation on how anti-lag worked, how Brabus make their cars and a few suggestion on tyre brands. He also told me he once helped his mate tune his Mini Coupe to 300bhp, which was then promptly crashed. In addition, he knows someone with a 500bhp, FWD FoST drift car. Nice, interesting guy. It was only after we disembarked that I realised I didn't catch his name. Oh well.

Is it wrong that I was upset there wasn't more detail about Scaramanga's island and less detail about the interesting guy (who was indeed interesting), but the Man with the Golden gun is IMO one of the best Bond films. Top 5 for sure.

Oh the island? At present, it's really nothing to crow about. There's nothing to actually point out why it's called James Bond Island on the tours. There didn't seem to be anything that pointed out where exactly the filming took place or where Bond and Scaramanga stood for their duel. There's also a whole bunch of little shops slap bang in the middle of the island and near the pier, there's a disconcertingly large amount of septic tank smell from the toilets. If you didn't know why it's called James Bond Island, you'd probably thinks it was nothing special, save for the nice views.
